Worldbank's first ever 24hr Econothon was organised (July 24, 2019 | 12:00 ET, 16:00 GMT to July 25, 2019 | 12:00 ET, 16:00 GMT). It had a lineup of speakers also from IBRD and IDA (collaboration with UBS Wealth Management, and also working with sovereigns to facilitate a dialogue between sovereign issuers and investors to help respond to investor demands for information about how sovereigns are working towards fulfilling their Paris Agreement commitments and whether they are on track towards achieving the SDG)
It featured dozens of economists on multiple issues crucial to development.
Topics focused were
how to remove barriers that prevent women from participating in the workplace;
why investing in education; health and other forms of human capital pays big dividends in the long term;
how to manage debt financing; and
how to build more resilient and sustainable water, food, and electricity systems in the wake of a changing climate.
