Our Eyes and Five Eyes collaborate in the Sidelines of Annual meetings at Nusa Dua, Bali

Six members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) – Indonesia, Brunei, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and the Philippines – launched the “Our Eyes” initiative for a more accurate and quicker response to cross-border security threats.

“Our Eyes” is perhaps another Intelligence block similar to “Five Eyes” intel-sharing alliance involving Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Britain and the United States.

Indonesia proposed the initiative in October 2017 at the ASEAN Defense Ministers meeting in the Philippines shortly after that country defeated Islamic State-linked militants who occupied the southern Philippine city of Marawi.

Interestingly Australia will send experts to train Indonesian law enforcement personnel in cyber security, Indonesian Defense Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu.

Alleged hacking by Australian intelligence

In November 2013, British newspaper The Guardian published article with report from leaks by Edward Snowden, showing that Australian intelligence had allegedly hacked into mobile phones of top Indonesian leaders in 2009. This included Sri Mulyani which at that time was the minister of finance.[21] Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott defended it by saying that the activities were not so much "spying" as "research" and that its intention would always be to use any information "for good".
