XXVI FIG Congress 2018 was held successfully in Istanbul Turkey. between 06 and 11 May 2018. The theme of XXVI FIG Congress 2018, “Embracing our smart world where the continents connect: enhancing the geospatial maturity of societies,” had a clear technical focus to motivate surveyors to improve their qualifications for the “Geospatial Transformation of the World”. It was co-organised by International Federation of Surveyors (FIG), Turkish Chamber of Survey and Cadaster Engineers (HKMO), Turkish Chamber of Survey and Cadaster Engineer (TCSCE)
More than 2,500 participants from Turkey and around the world and more than 400 sessions, several partner sessions and meetings and a lot of activity and networking possibilities, and 93 countries found their way to the Istanbul Convention Center in the city center of beautiful Istanbul, close to Taksim Square. As part of FIG Congress 2018 the FIG General Assembly 2018 was held with a record number of delegates. In the first General Assembly on 6 may 58 member associations were represented, and in the second a total of 71 member associations were present during the General Assembly and the votings.

This session (TS09I: Mass Appraisal Challenges and Solutions for a Smarter World) explored these national experiences and challenges and provide insights for better performance in the future.
